Pick-a-Pen: Riffen

Pick-a-Pen: Riffs is a game from the Pick-a-Pen series by renowned author Reiner Knizia and contains score sheets of 3 ascending levels. On score sheets 2 and 3 you will find whirlpools and propellers that can hinder or help you in coloring routes in different ways.

Explore the ocean around a sunken ship and form routes of the same color to reach treasures, but watch out for treacherous whirlpools! Always choose 1 of the rolled colored pencils and color a route of the number of steps indicated on the corresponding side. Depending on the chosen score level, you earn points in different ways.

You each have a score level of the same level, on which you color in routes from different dive locations. The starting player first rolls all the pencils, each of which has a different color. On their sides are different symbols. These show how many steps the route consists of that you may color in on your score sheet.

On your turn, choose a pencil and color in the corresponding route. You may only have one route per color, so if you don't have a route of that color yet, start one at an empty dive site. Otherwise you have to extend your existing route. The symbol on the pencil indicates how many steps you may color in and whether you must go straight ahead or choose freely. If you reach treasure chests or coins on your route, you may color in bonus points on your sheet. The game ends when one of the players has colored in a certain number of treasures or all his coins.

The Pick-a-Pen series is a new generation of innovative Roll & Write games, which really involve rolling with pencils. This allows for many different game mechanisms with the same playing material. But in every game, coloring in fields is central.
